Reading

We love to read at St Michael's

At St Michael's, we would like to instil a love for reading within our pupils. Reading is the foundation subject, which supports all others. If possible, it is important to 'model reading at home'. Children enjoy seeing adults read and are highly inquisitive. We have a range of books available for your child at St. Michael's and we shall aim to send books home, at least once per week.

We will aim to provide books and/or resources for your child at home. These include:-

1) Read Write Inc Phonics Resource
2) Read Write Inc 'Book Bag' Book
3) Levelled Book: based upon your child's baseline reading assessment
4) Class Library Book
5) School Library Book: The school library is currently going through a period of transformation to align with our new Accelerated Reader scheme. Please do bear with the team, while the library is updated for our Year 2 learners.

The graph below suggests that children should read at least 10 minutes per day. Research has proven that reading is positively linked with a child's 'word learning skills'.

Please do keep checking this particular part of the Year 2 webpage for up-to-date book recommendations.

Thank you very much.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs P. Banerji
