Introduction to Sparrow Class

Wednesday 15th December
Just to say a big thank you to parents for their generous gifts we feel very lucky. We have thoroughly enjoyed teaching Sparrow class this year and we will miss them all greatly, we look forward to hearing how they are getting on from Mrs Tiley. The children enjoyed a fantastic class party today with a VIP visit from Mrs Anderton. It was a fun, festive afternoon. Pictures to follow.
PE- The children's PE kits have come home for the holidays. There will be no PE lesson on Friday this week.
Tuesday 4th January 2022
Happy New Year to you all!
I hope that you have managed to enjoy the holidays. Please remember to order school lunches online via SCOPAY unless your child will be bringing a packed lunch into school.
The children will need to continue to come into school in their PE kit on Fridays and then change after the lesson.
I will upload the spellings for next week onto the homework section. I look forward to meeting the children once again on Wednesday.

Friday 3rd December 2021
This week we've had a mischievous Elf join Sparrow class. We are currently working really hard to show and teach him the 6 R's!!!
It is not long until our Christmas production, and we're really excited to be able to perform for you. Unfortunately parents are not able to watch in school but it is being recorded. The children look amazing in their costumes, they bring their characters to life!!! Please continue to practise lines and songs over the weekend.
We have had to carry some lessons over into next week, therefore, double ICT and PE will be happening due to Christmas rehearsals.
It was lovely to see so many of you attend Tree Trimming yesterday, we are certainly feeling all Christmassy now!!
Have a lovely weekend

Friday 26th November 2021
This week Sparrow class have dived into Christmas rehearsals, we thank you for supporting your child reciting their lines, poems, dances or songs. A letter has gone out today regarding costumes, please let us know if there is anything you need help with, we can always adapt the costumes!
As you can appreciate how busy (but fun!!) this time of year is in school, reading on a daily basis is proving difficult as there is never enough time in the day! Please be assured your child is heard reading at least once a week and across the curriculum reading is taking place all the time. We have been looking at Maths word problems, class reading of Shackleton, reading through scripts and lyrics as well as daily phonics. Continue to read a variety of genres with your child at home as this will help progression in their writing.
In our ICT lesson we have tried and tested TTRockstar logins and all seems to be working fine in school. These login details went home a couple of weeks ago and can be found at the back of your child's reading record. We will be focusing on timetables up until Christmas so any additional support at home will be beneficial.
If you have any concerns or queries we are always happy to make an appointment to address these with you or leave us a note in your child's reading record.
We wish you a restful weekend

Friday 19th November 2021
Today Sparrow class ran, hopped, skipped or walked their mile for Children in Need. Thank you for your contributions, some Children even shared activities they have accomplished in their own time!
It is that time of year again when we start to think about Christmas!! We have started to put Christmas decorations up in the classroom and as fun and exciting as it is, in RE we are learning about the true meaning of Christmas and why we do celebrate this special occasion.
Thank you to those you have brought in Art aprons, within the next couple of week's we will be making our Christmas decorations.
This week we successfully made a bug hotel during our Science lesson. We understand the importance of outside learning and will continue to spend as much time as we can outside. Hopefully your child has told you all about the bug hotel and why we made one. (Pictures will follow shortly) We will be finishing off the bug hotel next week, so if old clothes could be brought in that would be ideal!
Lines and lyrics have gone out for our Christmas production if you could support your child learning them it would be appreciated as we are as always short of time!
Enjoy your weekend

Friday 12th November 2021
We have made it to Friday after such a busy week!! A special thank you to Lucy who made a poppy wreath for yesterday's Remembrance Service in her own time, allowing Sparrow class to finish of their poppy fields.
This week we have been phonic screening to ensure children have secure knowledge in their application of segmenting and blending of sounds. Although confidently reading different reading materials is imperative to being exposed to different vocabulary, it is important to continue to using phonics to support reading of new words. We are beginning to stick speed sounds into recording records to support children at home.
TTrockstar passwords have been stuck into reading records, if there are any problems logging on please let us know.
Have a lovely weekend

Welcome back!! Half term feels like so along ago however, it has been lovely listening to what the class got up to. This half term we have started new modules (hopefully Sparrows have talked to you about them) and we'll be getting ready for Christmas (our favourite time of year!!)
Poppies are being sold on a daily basis and we have our school Remembrance Service on Thursday, so it'd be nice to see as many children wearing their poppies with pride!
Sponsor forms went out recently to raise money for charity by completing a daily mile which is 10 laps around the playground! It would be great to support not only a good cause but Sparrow class too - the class are very excited about this challenge.
Fireworks are happening this weekend so please be safe and keep warm!!

Friday 22nd October 2021
We have made it to half term!! Sparrows have had a productive last week of term rehearsing and performing their class assembly (please see gallery for video and pictures) finished with a dress up Friday.
We are incredibly proud of how everyone managed to remember their lines speaking clearly and loudly. Many teachers have commented on how inspiring the assembly was and yesterday children went home with a thank you note as a show of appreciation!
This week all children have been bench marked and it's great to see and hear so much enthusiasm in their reading. A focus point at the moment is reading comprehension and children went home today with some questions to support this. Although children are fluent readers, at times it isn't evident they understand what they are reading or it's purpose.
We hope you all have a healthy and relaxing half term and we look forward to hearing all about your news and what you got up to.
We thank you for your patience and support

Friday 15th October 2021
We have almost made it to half term!! Pictures of what Sparrow class have been up to can be found in the gallery. Apologies as last week children were tested on the wrong spellings - although they never mentioned it at the time!! This week we tested both sets of spellings and will take the highest score. If 100% results are recorded in 3 consecutive weeks we will create a new spelling group. This does also mean the correct spellings have to be applied throughout their writing too.
Next week hopefully, everyone will be bench marked ready for half term. Otherwise we will carry over after half term.
Class assembly is this Thursday, parents unfortunately can't be present however, we will record it.
Next Friday is dress up Friday so children are invited to wear their own clothes to school.
Have a lovely weekend

This morning we had a great time celebrating Harvest Festival. A big thank you to everyone who brought in something to go into our Harvest Festival food box. The class felt so proud and to display this in the hall and it links in with our RE topic of showing kindness to others. (In the gallery you will find pictures from todays celebration) Sparrow class were also able to recite their class poem and inspired others with the vocabulary used!! They should feel really proud of themselves, what a great achievement!!
Sparrow class assembly is on Thursday 21st October which will be recorded and put onto the class page. We understand parents aren't allowed into school but we appreciate the great support regardless!!
Spellings are on the web page under the tab homework.
If your child has an old t.shirt or apron they could wear during Art lessons on a Monday, please bring it in with their name in it.
Have a great weekend

Firstly apologies, as last week it was mentioned brain builders had to be in last week when in fact I (Mrs Field) completely got my dates muddled up. It has been wonderful seeing all the brain builders that have come in - we even celebrated them in topic. It is so rewarding to see children proud of their work!
We have been learning our harvest poem with actions this week ready to perform next week to the school. (We will record this for you) so please continue to practise at home! Attached soon will be a sneak peak as to how much progress we are making!!
Children have been told their spellings colour group and groups are likely to change over the coming weeks to challenge or support their needs. It is important that the children then apply their spelling knowledge into their writing and not just in a spelling test.
We will be collecting dry and/or tinned food for harvest festival next week, any donations would be greatly appreciated. We will have a harvest festive box in class.
Hope you have a lovely weekend.
Take care
Mrs Field and Mrs Guy.
Monday 27th September 2021
Below you will find the harvest poem link that the children are beginning to recite ready for Harvest celebration in church on Friday. If you could please support your child at home reciting this poem it will really boost their confidence. We are currently coming up with actions to support recitation in class.
Many thanks in advance

Today has been a lovely way to end the week with the delicious cake sale and mufti day raising a lot of money for a good cause. Thank you to all for your support. Pictures will be uploaded to show you just how much fun we had eating our yummy cakes!!
Brain builders were due in today but we understand how busy it's been this week so if you could make sure they are completed because we enjoy looking at them!
It has been lovely seeing so many of you this week and to share the amazing news of your child's progress during transition.
Spellings are on the web page and will be tested on 30.9.21.
Harvest church service is on 1.10.21
Enjoy your weekend.

Friday 17th September 2021
We made it to Friday!! It has been another productive week and we look forward to sharing photos with you over the next few days. We are aware that the web page has been difficult to access using a mobile phone or tablet and we are trying to solve this as quickly as we can.
This week on Tuesday and Wednesday we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible to discuss how well your child has settled into school.
On Friday it is mufti day so if Sparrow class can come to school wearing their PE kit and put their own clothes (non-school uniform) in their PE bags.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
Have a lovely weekend.

Friday 10th September 2021
It has been an incredibly busy week for the Sparrow class starting new topics and getting used to a full week at school! Everyone has settled in really well and it's been a pleasure to getting to know the children and see their personalities shine through.
Over the weekend we will be sharing some photos of our learning under the gallery tab so keep checking the web page to see what we have been up do. We will always try to communicate as best we can via the web page to keep you updated with changes or relevant information.
Apologies that there are a couple of children we haven't read with this week. Monday morning we'll catch up and engage with them. Uploaded will also be a timetable to show what children we listen to read on what days and it is on those days books will get changed. In the meantime, reading different types of books such as diaries or recipes is a great opportunity to be exposed to new and challenging vocabulary.
On a Thursday children will be sent home with their PE kits because it saves time on a Friday morning and it ensures we get a full PE lesson. Thank you in advance for the support and patience as we know it was a short notice decision. But a proud moment to see the class take responsibility for their learning time!
Have a great weekend

Tueday 7th September
What a great start to the week! The children have been working hard in lessons and are enjoying getting stuck in to our new Frozen Planet topic.
Reading days
Target readers will be heard daily and all other children will be heard twice a week (when their books will also be changed). This week we will send out a note stating the days in which your child will be heard read, please check their book bags for this. Please make sure their reading diary is in school every day as we sometimes use this for communication. There will of course be plenty of other in class opportunities for reading  during shared reading sessions, RWI, library time and independent reading.
This Thursday the new brainbuilder homework will come out it will be due in on the 30th September. Spellings will start in a couple of weeks. In the mean time we will upload the statutory spellings and common exception words for you own use if needed.
This week in maths we are learning about place value. If you wish to support any learning in this area take a look at some of the maths games in the notices section of the website.
Thank you for the meet the teacher slips that have been returned so far. Next week we will  let you know your selected time.
Many thanks,
mrs Field and Mrs Guy
Friday 3rd September.
We have had a very busy couple of days in Sparrow class! We have created class rules together that links to our growth mindset posters about how we can be kind to others and ourselves. We have also introduced a worry box to encourage children to share a worry even if they feel like they can't talk to an adult.
Reading books have gone home today so please read daily with your child (even a couple of pages a day discussing the book is really going to be helpful!!)
Letters have gone home about meeting the teachers and we look forward to meeting you discussing learning in Year 2 or any questions you may want answering. If return slips could be returned ASAP to ensure you get a time slot suitable for you.
Next week we go into our full timetable of lessons - so hopefully the children will be able to begin sharing their learning with you!!
We have had an enjoyable couple of days this week, the children have been so welcoming to the new children so thank you!!
Have a great weekend.
Mrs Field and Mrs Guy.

Welcome back. We hope you have enjoyed a relaxing summer break and we look forward to seeing you in school!
Over the next couple of days we will be settling in to our new classroom, discussing rules, routines and responsibilities as well as sharing our summer holiday news. We have been very excited to receive some holiday postcards already which we will share with the class. Just a gentle reminder that the deadline for this homework is Friday 10th September.
We will be updating the webpage in the coming days with lots of information regarding year 2. The page will be updated with new information every week, so please check regularly.
