English - Reading - The children take part in 1-1 reading, whole class reading and guided reading sessions on a regular basis throughout the week.
Class texts -
Katie in London written by James Mayhew.
Asha in the Attic written by Chris Powling.
We will also be looking at books written by Fiona Barker our visiting author.
Non Fiction books - The Great Fire of London.
Class book - The Enchanted Wood written by Enid Blyton.
Writing - writing tasks link to class texts.
Writing sentences, captions, descriptions, poems and information.
Sounding out words to write sentences. Think it, Say it, Write it, Read it.
Punctuation & Grammar - Punctuation - Capital letters, full stops, finger spaces between words,
exclamation marks, question marks. Understanding nouns, verbs and adjectives.
Spellings - weekly set spellings linked to RWI phonics.
Poetry - Seasonal poems.
Read Write Inc. (RWI) phonic sessions take place daily. The children complete phonic reading and short writing tasks during these sessions.
Handwriting - Step 1 - Using the correct pencil grip,forming letters correctly.
Step 2 - Forming letters correctly (cursive script) Starting letters on the line.
Step 3 - Begin to join some letters.
Mathematics - In Y1 we follow the White Rose scheme of work. This term the children will be covering number and place value within 100, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, position and direction, money and time.
Daily Maths Meetings - Calendar Maths, counting forwards & backwards, number bonds to 10 & 20, place value, money, time, fractions, shape and pattern, time.
